Sleepless in Manhattan by Sarah Morgan
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Paige was born with a heart defect and as a result spent a lot of time in the hospital as a child. She felt smothered and as a result as an adult, she is super independent and hates to ask for help. She wants to do things herself. Paige has a huge crush on her brother's BFF Jake. Her brother is super protective. But, they all remain friends.
This opens with Paige thinking she is going to get a promotion, but is instead fired. This leads her to decide to open her own business. She has a network of friends and family willing and able to help. After some angst about asking for help, she does.
So, back to the romance. I'm generally not a fan of the "I have a crush on a sibling BFF" trope. Many times it's because the sibling "bans/forbids" the other person from dating the sibling (and it's usually a younger sibling). And that is the case with this one. The romance is slow going in this one and I had a hard time getting on board. I also hated Jake's big reason for not doing relationships. I thought it was stupid and lame.
I read this for Ripped Bodice Summer Bingo- Friends to Lovers square.
