The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire

Review:

The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire - Molly Harper

It's Iris's little sister Gigi's story. Gigi (AKA Gladiola) has this awesome kiss one night and the guy disappeared. In the meantime, she can't forget it (because OF COURSE!). She gets a summer internship working for the vampire council. Then he shows up again our of nowhere and attacks her.
Gigi figures something supernatural must be going on and it's up to her to figure it out. Of course Iris and Cal hate that she's working for the council and is in serious "like" with Nik. The best thing about this book was the crew- Iris, Cal, Jane, Gabriel, Dick, Andrea, Nola....and yes Gigi. She's a smart ass, strong, and I loved that she was into coding (and good at it).
Even though I enjoyed this, I think the was the weakest of the books thus far. I thought the history of the Renart's was glossed over. The next should be interesting with the issues that surround Ophelia and her change in circumstance (and the council's).

Night of Fire

Review:

Night of Fire - Nico Rosso

A steampunk western? Sounds interesting. This opens up with Tom traveling back to his hometown from the front of a war with the Hapsburg's. It turns out he was in love with Rosa and didn't want to fight for their relationship (because her parents didn't like him and Reasons). He's going back to check on things. Low and behold he finds a gigantic mining machine tearing through the countryside towards his hometown. Rosa left the town and got a lot of life experience. When she came back, she was appointed sheriff. Now it's up to them to stop the machine from destroying the town.
While this was action packed, it was light on the romance. I thought Rosa forgave Tom too easily. I also had a hard time imaging what a "Sky Horse" would look like (no wings).

Forged in Desire

Review:

Forged in Desire (The Protectors) - Brenda Jackson

Margo was part of the jury on a trial that lasted 6 weeks. She was sequestered with her follow jurors and found the defendant (Erickson- a mob boss) guilty. Erickson decides to murder everyone in the courtroom that day and has many people on the inside that allow him to start to follow through.
Lamar AKA Striker is an ex-con turned bodyguard (or "Protector" as the book call them). After 3 people are murdered, Frazier, Margo's uncle hires Lamar.
The being was hard for me. I thought Margo behaved immaturely in regards to having to alter her schedule/lifestyle changed. Hello, there's killer on the loose! I also through Striker could have been a little more empathetic to Margo. Striker also withheld some details (an example being that Margo's bedroom AND bathroom were bugged). Once it get going it get better.
There's also a side story about Margo's ex Scott and one of his friends. Margo finds out she has an additional family member (I liked how she picked up on it and was very accepting of it). Frazier's ex has it out for Margo. Margo learns more about her parents death, so there was A LOT of other stuff going on too.

Night Broken

Review:

Night Broken - Patricia Briggs

So, Christy, Adam's ex-wife has a stalker. This stalker also happens to be of the supernatural variety and has killed. Let it also be noted that Christy
knew it wasn't human and the bitch didn't share that information.
On top of that, Mercy has to find Coyote and ask for the walking stick back. The fae it belongs to wants it back.
I admit I was putting off reading this one because of the Christy story-line. I was frustrated that Christy got so much love and support from the Pack. That she abandoned. Since "werewolves can tell when people are lying," I didn't expect Christy to have so much power. She is a master of persuasion and manipulation. (Are we sure she's human? 'Cause the bitch is good).
But then, finally, the story was much less about Christy and about so much more. We learn more about Mercy's bond with Stefan, the pack bonds, Tad. There were moments that showed Mercy has the love and support of the pack. Honey stepped up when it counted. So did Auriele and Mary Jo.
I hope Gary Laughingdog sticks around. Zach too (a new submissive wolf that drifts from pack to pack).
The set-up is on for more possible conflicts with the fae and vampires.
And the walking stick is back; it appears again to save Mercy from a fall at the end.

Desire Me

Review:

Desire Me - Robyn DeHart

This is Max's story (who we met in book one). Max happens to have a fascination with all things Atlantis. Sabine happens to be descended from Altanteans. Sabine and her aunts (one of whom is the 3rd Guardian) have moved to London because of the "prophecy." Someone is killing generals who can't be bought and Guardians to steal the elixir in an attempt to take England's army (and thus the world).
While I enjoyed this, I wish there hadn't been so much "I can't love you because of Reasons." There was too much of that. I did like that there were 2 "evil-doers" in this one (with completely different goals). All-in-all, this was a fun, Indiana Jones type romance with some supernatural and legend through in.

Firelight

Review:

Firelight - Kristen Callihan

I enjoyed this book and really had a had time putting it down. I would have liked more about Miranda and her ability to summon fire. It said she was born with it, her sisters (Poppy and Daisy) are "normal." This book is definitely more about Archer and what happened to him. I was certainly curious about his disfigurement (burns? pox marks? bad ache scars? well, no.).
I did think that was slow moving at times. Both take time to learn to trust and withhold information.
The end was my favorite part.
Miranda was the one who saved the day. She kicked ass and took names.
Daisy and Poppy's books are next!

Ember

Review:

Ember (Darkest London, #0.5) - Kristen Callihan

I'm glad I went with the suggestion to read the prologue in Firelight before reading this. The prologue of Firelight is referenced in this (Miranda and Archer meeting). Having made a lasting first impression on each other, they go their separate ways. Archer trying to find a cure for his affliction. Miranda stealing per her father's directive.
Miranda's father is as asshole. I thought the difference in timelines distracting (they are off by 2 years- Archer's taking place 2 years later). It was sad what Martin did, but was a really a favor since he was only focuses on Miranda's looks and not on her as a person.
